Welcome to MacroCount. We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. MacroCount is designed to be a simple, privacy-respecting macro and calorie tracking application.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use MacroCount, how and where that information is stored, and what rights you have over your data.
2. Information We Collect
When you create an account and use the MacroCount application, we collect the following limited information:
- Account Credentials: Your email address and a securely salted and hashed password, or unique authentication identifiers if you sign in with third-party providers (such as Apple or Google).
- Nutrition & Target Data: Your self-configured daily nutritional targets (calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat) and any food or meal entries you log.
- Technical Metadata: Basic timestamp data necessary to sync your entries across your devices.
We do NOT collect: location data, contacts, financial or credit card information, device advertising IDs, or biometric data.
3. Where Your Data Is Stored & Processed
Your account information, email address, and nutritional logs are stored in our private, secure server database hosted on infrastructure at Lysator (Academic Computer Club at Linköping University, Sweden).
Our application routing and security infrastructure is provided by Cloudflare, which processes temporary network data (such as IP addresses) to secure the connection and protect against malicious traffic.
By storing data within the European Union (Sweden), your data is treated under strict European data protection standards, including full compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the data we collect solely for the following purposes:
- To create and authenticate your account.
- To securely synchronize your daily logs, meals, and macronutrient targets across your devices.
- To provide account recovery and essential service communications when requested.
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal data. MacroCount is completely free and is not funded by selling user information or serving targeted third-party advertising.
5. Third-Party Services
If you choose to sign in using "Sign in with Apple" or "Sign in with Google", those services verify your identity according to their respective privacy terms. We only receive your authorized identifier and email address. We do not integrate third-party tracking SDKs, ad brokers, or telemetry collectors.
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. All communication between the MacroCount app and our server at Lysator is encrypted using modern Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS). Passwords are never stored in plain text.
7. Data Retention & Your Rights (GDPR)
We retain your account data and nutritional logs for as long as your account remains active. If you request account deletion, your personal data is permanently removed from our active database immediately, and from encrypted server backups within 30 days.
Under applicable laws, including the European Union's GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: You can modify or update your nutritional targets and entries directly in the app.
- Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): You may request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, or to request permanent deletion of your account, simply email us from your registered account email at [email protected]. We will process your request promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If any material changes are made, we will notify you through the app or by updating the effective date at the top of this document.
